One of the main objectives of a filtration operator is to employ a filtration system that decontaminates large quantities of material in a short period of time. In order to do so, a filtration medium that has as many pore openings that can fit within the surface area of the filter must be used.
This is where MINIMESH® RPD HIFLO-S Filter Mesh comes into the picture.
W.S. Tyler has over 140 years of experience working with woven wire filter cloth and has helped dozens if not hundreds of customers implement filter mesh to enhance their filtration systems.
This article will focus on MINIMESH RPD HIFLO-S filter cloth; defining what it is, explaining the costs associated with it, providing insight into the benefits it offers, and describing the ideal applications.
What Is MINIMESH RPD HIFLO-S Filter Cloth?
Traditionally, filter cloth has been designed with a 2D form factor that has a limited amount of pore openings, which can sometimes make it difficult for an operator to achieve optimal filtration efficiency. MINIMESH RPD HIFLO-S; however, provides an all new perspective on what can be achieved with filter cloth.
MINIMESH RPD HIFLO-S is best defined as a filter cloth medium designed with a 3D form factor that doubles both the pore openings and surface area of a single piece of filter cloth.
Now, increasing the number of pore openings is more than just simply stacking multiple 2D filters on top of one another. To create the increased amount of pore openings, MINIMESH RPD
HIFLO-S filter cloth utilizes a reverse plain dutch weave that offsets the pores of the two filtration layers.
Naturally, by doubling the number of pores, you will double the amount of system flow rate and vastly improve the efficiency of your operation.
How Much Does RPD HIFLO Filter Cloth Cost?
The amount in which you should expect to pay for RPD HIFLO filter cloth depends on several factors, including the level of filtration you desire, the amount of contaminants that are typically present in the substance(s) you work with, the viscosity of the substance(s) being filtered, and the pressure within your system.
With that, the ability of an RPD HIFLO filter cloth to promote uniform pressure levels, increase flow rate, reduce operation downtime, and reduce energy consumption means you will also see a significant decrease in operational expenses.
What Are the Benefits of Using MINIMESH RPD HIFLO-S Filter Cloth?
No matter what industry you work in, increasing the flow rate of your system while also cutting production costs stands as one of the leading goals. As a filtration operator, you must often experiment with different pore sizes to see which filtration specification works best for your particular operation.
To provide a little more detail, let’s say you have a traditional sheet of 2D filter cloth that has 10 micron pores. The fluid in which you are filtering will flow at a minimal rate, as there is only so much open space that it can physically travel through.
That said, the only true way to enhance the efficiency of your operation without compromising the mesh’s ability to filter out contaminants is to increase the amount of open space while maintaining the same micron rating.
As stated above, the 3D structure of a MINIMESH RPD HIFLO-S filter takes the filtration qualities of a 2D filter and adds an additional layer of filtration which, in turn, doubles the number of pore openings.
This allows for an increased amount of filtration, a reduction in production costs, and a reduction in equipment size when specifying new equipment or retrofitting existing equipment.
The increased number of pore openings also reduce the amount of pressure loss within the filtration system. This is crucial as most operations rely on an even amount of pressure on both sides of the filtration medium.
Let’s refer back to the example where we use a traditional 10-micron filter cloth.
If this particular filter only had four 10-micron pores that fluids could flow through, the pressure variations, both upstream and downstream, would be much larger than a filter with 50 10-micron pores. By adding more open space, you’re eliminating the physical boundaries that prevent the uniform system pressure that is needed for optimal results.
To put it simply, when you implement a 3D filter cloth, such as the MINIMESH RPD HIFLO-S, fluids can flow through the system much easier. In turn, you are left with evenly disrupted pressure throughout your system.
Where Can MINIMESH RPD HIFLO-S Filter Cloth Be Used?
The increased flow rate that is allotted when using an RPD HIFLO-S screen makes this filtration medium perfect for applications that call for high throughput with limited filter contamination.
That said, the 3D form of an RPD HIFLO-S filter also allows it to be used in applications that subject filter mediums to extreme conditions.
Prior to RPD HIFLO-S filters, there were significant restrictions on the thickness of the wires used to construct wire mesh filters, as it had a tremendous impact on the filter’s pore sizes. Unfortunately, the materials that could withstand the filtration of hot/corrosive fluids were too brittle when stretched to a wire diameter that complied with smaller pore sizes.
It’s because of this that, for the most part, temperature- and corrosion-resistant filters would have pore openings no finer than 40 micron.
By using layered filtration technology, RPD HIFLO-S filters can have a pore size of 5 micron to 40 micron while also using the thicker wires needed to withstand harsh applications. This means operations that filter high-temperature/corrosive fluids can experience the efficiency needed for optimal results.
Selecting The Right Filter Cloth
Filtration operators constantly seek to improve their operations by enhancing efficiency and reducing costs. The most common way to do this is by experimenting with different filtration mediums until optimal contaminant filtration and flow rate are achieved.
MINIMESH RPD HIFLO-S filter cloth is a filter medium with a 3D structure that has the ability to double the flowrate of most filtration operations. This is possible as its unique design offsets two filtration layers, essentially doubling the number of pore openings.
Now, the cost of a RPD HIFLO-S filter cloth depends on several factors. With that, there are a number of benefits and qualities this filtration solution brings that will reduce operational expenses.
Most importantly, RPD HIFLO-S filter cloth can be constructed with thicker, more durable material. This along with its ability to significantly increase flow rate makes it perfect for operations that require high throughput as well as operations that subject the filtration medium to hot/corrosive fluids.
